Surface finish
Honed (Matte) Taj Mahal Quartzite
A honed finish is ground smooth but stopped short of a gloss, leaving Taj Mahal quartzite with a soft, velvety, low-sheen surface. The color reads slightly lighter and calmer than polished, and the veining becomes a quieter part of the design rather than the first thing you see.
Where honed works best
Honed Taj Mahal suits kitchens where owners want a relaxed, natural look, as well as bathroom floors, shower walls and stair treads where a matte surface is more forgiving and less slippery than a polish. It is also a good match for painted cabinetry and wood tones in farmhouse and contemporary interiors.
Things to consider
Matte surfaces can show oils and dark liquids a little more readily than a polished surface because there is no glossy layer to repel them, so sealing is recommended. Honed stone can also be re-finished more easily than polished stone if a countertop is ever damaged.
Ordering honed slabs
Honed slabs are available in 2 cm and 3 cm thickness, with the same packing and shipping options as our polished material: A-frame bundles for full slabs, wooden crates for cut-to-size, LCL or DDP for smaller quantities. Honing is done at our factory, so a polished slab you select can be honed before shipment if preferred.
Photos show a specific slab or a completed project. Natural color and veining vary from block to block, so we send numbered photos of the actual slabs before you confirm an order.
